Service Description

Creative Uses of Genograms in Assessment and Therapy Grounded in systems theory and emphasizing the concept of multigenerational transmission, this workshop will focus on helping clinicians understand how family dynamics, relational roles, trauma patterns, and strengths are passed down and reenacted. Participants will examine how genograms can be applied to understand and treat a wide range of presenting concerns, diagnoses, and systems. This workshop and suggested application of genograms will challenge the conceptualization of “family” and “system” to include chosen families, community structures, and cultural networks, encouraging clinicians to approach genogram work with flexibility and creativity. Learning Objectives:
By the end of this training, participants will be able to: 1. Describe how genograms illustrate multigenerational transmission of patterns within a systemic framework. 2. Implement genograms as both assessment and intervention tools in at least two different clinical contexts. 3. Demonstrate how to adapt genogram construction and interpretation to address the influence of culture, identity, and chosen family systems in therapeutic assessment and treatment.
